Liberal Values

Since I've buried this on my sidebar I thought I'd bring it up to a post to see if I can get some more comments to put in the update.

Liberalism: A political theory founded on the natural goodness of humans and the autonomy of the individual and favoring civil and political liberties, government by law with the consent of the governed, and protection from arbitrary authority. [Also a] 19th-century Protestant movement that favored free intellectual inquiry, stressed the ethical and humanitarian content of Christianity, and de-emphasized dogmatic theology.

Liberal Values Part I: Natural Goodness

Liberal Values Part II: Autonomy of the Individual

Liberal Values Part III: Favoring Civil and Political Liberties

Liberal Values Part IV: Government by Law with the Consent of the Governed

Liberal Values Part V: Protection from Arbitrary Authority

Liberal Values Part VI: Free Intellectual Inquiry

Thanks for taking the Grand Tour, StealthBadger! The only quiz I have at hand is http://www.self-gov.org/quiz.html so that you can see where you land on the political map. I was slightly left of center.

  2. While I would love to agree with you, and in a purely utopian world, your basic premise about people being naturally good just might be true. However, and if this is your basic principle on which your built your liberal philosophy, then you are slightly short of the mark. In fact, if that were the case, there would have to be no moral laws, and random acts of murder would not occur. Even on of the deciples Paul (Saul) said... "that I constantly do that which I don't want to do, and don't do that which I should"
