It's the Most Writerful Time of the Year

Science Fiction Hero of the Day - Cyrano de Bergerac

He was a geek before being a geek was cool.

"Cyrano's most prominent work is now published under the title 'Other Worlds', a collection of stories describing his fictional journeys to the Moon and Sun. The methods of space travel he describes are inventive and often ingenious, detailing ideas often broadly original and sometimes rooted in science. Cyrano rests alongside such minds as Kepler and Jules Verne under the genre of 'scientific travel fiction'. It should be noted, however, that Cyrano's primary purpose in writing these novels was to subtly criticize man's egocentric view of his place in creation, as well as the social injustices of the 17th century." ~ Wikipedia

Obviously the writer of this entry didn't realize that social commentary is VERY MUCH a part of the science fiction genre.

Top Posts

I've tried to figure out what pattern I can make of these, the top posts visited on TTGSiMH. Are you ready?
  • Which Way Did He Go, George? People aren't going there to read my snarky political comment, they're looking for the links to the wav file and YouTube video that I provide. (Fortunately for them, I figured out why they were showing up on TTGSiMH and added those links later.)
  • Jon's "Flaming Bag of Poop" Show I get a disturbing number of hits for this one. Whatever it is they are looking for, I doubt they find it and I don't think that I want to provide it...
  • Thoughts That Get Stuck A fairly recent entry that I posted when I realized how many people showed up here looking for help with obsessive/compulsive issues (because of the title of the blog). It seems to be catching quite a bit of that traffic now. I hope that this reference helps them out a bit... and saves them from reading about Looney Tunes or Flaming Bags of Poop when what they really want is some help.
  • What's It Like To Be An INFP? Originally a comment on someone else's site, this one seems to be the most favorite hit of the INFP related posts.
  • Hyper-Intelligent Shade of the Color Blue This started out as a review of the chat tool Trillian but so many people came looking for the Hooloovoo that I had to add some details and links at the bottom. I love you, all you Douglas Adams fans! You really know where your towels are at.
So, lesseee.... I can specialize in humor/psychology? Well, that actually might be a lot of fun.

Fickle Writer

Last night I went searching for Subspace Eddy to see if she might be writing something interesting out in the blogosphere while ignoring her old blog The Bean Mines and found that she had a Ficlets profile. AND SHE HASN'T WRITTEN ANY FICLETS! HELLO! SUBSPACE! GET ON IT, WILL YOU?

Meanwhile, I signed up for my own Ficlets account and promptly started typing up stuff. If you haven't heard of Ficlets, it's a little forum where you are limited to the range of 64 to 1,024 characters for each thing you write - just enough for a scene or a VERY short story. But you can sequel or prequel ficlets, including your own. The fun starts when different people take a story through various scenes by doing sequels. You never know where the story might go. There also seem to be quite a few challenges afoot, which reminds me of my old OWW SFF days.

For now I've put my ficlets RSS feed on the top right of the blog so you can check it out. But, being the fickle writer that I am don't expect me to stick with it for too long. Obviously sawing wood is what I was intended for...

A Joyous Circle for Dennis Storhoi

Soogle strikes again.

As you might remember from some previous posts, we are Dennis Storhoi fans in our household. We named a dog after his character in 13th Warrior, wondered why he doesn't have a presence at EPCOT Norway, and I even wrote a fan letter (and got a reply) back when he had a fansite.

I'm blogging about this because I saw that someone came to TTGSiMH today searching for info and I doubted that they got what they were looking for when they got here. Unfortunately, with his fansite going down, it was hard to find much of anything new to post. Then I went out to IMDB Pro and checked out his message board and it turns out that there is a Yahoo!Group called Dennis Storhoi Circle. I have, of course, joined. Come check it out!

I also checked my Celebrity Compatibility with Dennis and we are a 100% intellectual match. Obviously we could have a great chat over some kaffebrød.

Who Wants to Be Mistress of the Dark?

Why didn't anyone tell me that they were casting for "The Search for the Next Elvira"? I haven't been so heartbroken since I found out they cast "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" without me.

If I Had a Million Dollars I'd Buy You a Green Dress
no, not a green dress - that would be cruel

Consider this me signing up for Steve Pavlina's Million Dollar Experiment.

In an easy and relaxed manner, in a healthy and positive way, in its own perfect time, for the highest good of all, I intend $1,000,000 to come into my life and into the lives of everyone who holds this intention.

The Arcane Hour

One of the things that I wish I had gotten around to a long time ago was starting a streaming show called The Arcane Hour. Around this time of year it always comes to mind. Somewhere between Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and In Search of... (with a little TAPS thrown in), it would research the paranormal in a campy, offbeat way.

Since we're addicted to watching all of the ghosties, ghoulies and long-leggety beasty shows in our house through the month in October we have run into the problem that there just isn't enough "fresh" investigating going on - at least not from sources we can stand. We tried to watch the live broadcast from the Winchester House, just for something a little bit different to do, but their "cast" irritates us and we only made it through about thirty minutes.

Do you have any good ghost stories to share? Come around the virtual campfire and share. There are only nine more midnights before Halloween. It's time to get good and scared.

You have a real thirst for bliss, and you consider yourself a true hedonist.
And you're not afraid to walk alone in life, if it means getting what you truly crave.
You truly enjoy entrancing people. Not to mention the ensuing pleasures of the flesh.
Your tastes have been called decadent and bizarre. You usually give in to your temptations, no matter how primal

Your greatest power: Your flawless ability to seduce and charm

Your greatest weakness: Human flesh

I've Got My New Character Concept

For mysteries, it’s the gumshoe; romance novels, the busty maiden; fantasy novels, the young adventurer; political thrillers, the idealistic lawyer.

In science fiction, the archetypal hero is the starship captain – doughty scientist-explorers setting off across the uncharted reaches of the cosmos in search of new life, new civilizations.

The Top Twenty Starship Captains

Obviously I need a busty idealistic gumshoe adventure lawyer starship captain. Yowza!!
